Wellington Lee OAM OBE, a Melbourne legend, is a fourth generation
Australian of Chinese descent. His great grandparents worked in
the Victorian goldfields.
During the Second World War, Mr Lee was an officer in the RAAF. Born
in Darwin, he was a pharmacist in the CBD for over thirty years.
In addition he has been active in Lions International and Freemasonry,
and has sat on or headed many community, cultural and ethnic organisations,
including the Ethnic Community Council of Victoria; Multicultural
Arts, Landscape Foundation, Red Cross Appeal, Asian-Australian
Consultative Council; the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Victoria
and was Foundation Chairman of the Federation of Chinese Associations
.His
current activities include chairing the International Students’ Trust
and Emergency Fund.
A resident of Melbourne for over twenty years, Mr Lee served
five times on the Melbourne City Council, including a stint as
Lord Mayor. He created Safe City cameras, supported clean
city strategies and graffiti elimination.
Regrettably these problems have returned and will require tougher
action. Traffic and parking problems and drunkenness have
not been addressed. Mr Lee will continue to work strenuously
for a safe, happy, green, clean prosperous, progressive, exciting
and internationally acclaimed city to be enjoyed by residents,
business and visitors.
