PASSION ISSUES

Like you, we love Melbourne. We spruik it to others and defend it in the face of criticism. However, we ratepayers and residents know that our beautiful city could be even better.

One of the major issues facing Melbourne is the performance of Town Hall. That's why the Passion for Melbourne team is seeking your support at this month's Council elections.

We've identified some of the major issues here and as the campaign proceeds, we will be announcing policies that put Melbourne and its people first.

Passion for Melbourne will restore fair and equitable treatment for all Melburnians.
Passion for Melbourne will adopt policy-driven management rather than the management-driven policy approach now favoured by Town Hall.
Passion for Melbourne will ensure that Town Hall does more with less.

Accountability:

We believe passionately in a transparent approach to the Budget that ensures ratepayers’ money is spent wisely, providing services and facilities that are valuable to our communities and not merely to satisfy councillors or unelected and entrenched bureaucrats. We do not support the rates grab from Town Hall. MORE HERE

Business:

We are passionately pro-business. We will ensure that Melbourne’s enterprises, from large corporations to small coffee shops in our eclectic laneways, are treated with equity and fairness and maintain a competitive edge. We want to make Melbourne THE desired place to do business.  MORE TO COME

Carlton:
It's a neighbourhood with its own special charm, interests and needs. It has also been ignored by John So' s Council. MORE HERE
Representation:
We believe passionately the Council should be more responsive to the differing needs of each neighbourhood and we will bring about change to guarantee that it is. There is too much buck-passing and not enough representation on Council, leaving residents and ratepayers with no place to turn. MORE HERE
Independence:

We believe passionately that the City of Melbourne should be as free as possible from Spring Street interference and party politics. Town Hall should not be the appendage of the Victorian Government, but should by its performance earn the authority to guide our great city’s future. MORE HERE

Cooperation:

We believe passionately that our Councillors should work together and that personal agendas should be shelved in favour of a Melbourne agenda. MORE TO COME

Public Safety:

We believe passionately that Melbourne can be a safer place and that we can reduce the harm and threat to people and property. Will use the resources of Town Hall more widely and more effectively to gather a true picture on the crime. We will utilise this data to campaign for fairer police presence and to target new CCTV installations. MORE HERE and HERE

Sustainability:

We believe passionately that Melbourne should continue down the road to sustainability. We support water-harvesting to add to our water supply and believe that our parklands and open spaces are the envy of cities worldwide, and that they should be maintained at the highest levels. MORE TO COME

Swanston Street:
We believe passionately that Swanston Street is long overdue for a facelift. As a major north-south artery, it should be open to traffic during the week, and on weekends perhaps become a vehicle-free shopping precinct. MORE TO COME
